Delirium Series by Lauren Oliver

Love. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don’t. In Lauren Oliver’s stunning second novel, love has been declared a dangerous disease, and the government forces everyone who reaches eighteen to have a procedure called the cure. Lena Haloway is very much looking forward to being cured and living a safe, predictable life. But then she meets enigmatic Alex, who lives under the government’s radar. What will happen if they do the unthinkable and fall in love?

I have not had such an emotional reaction from a book since I read Eve. Lauren created a world that on the surface feels so perfect, very orderly. You tend to agree w/ the way things are until you start to see just how horrible a pain free, emotion free life really would be. A world w/o love is a worse crime than anything we could imagine the government enforcing. You will get to know Lena & see how she becomes changed by love. How she comes to learn that the government has lied to her (to everyone) and brainwashed even her very family. A dystopian world that both intrigues & terrifies you.

(P.S. Delirium is headed for the big screen. Fox 2000 has not only purchased the rights for that film; they have obtained first-look options for this Oliver's upcoming series books.)

PANDEMONIUM

This book just picks up right where the first one leaves off. I'm not going to give details so as not to spoil anything. My heart cracked a little more w/ this book. I don't think I was really believing that certain things were true or were happening. I loved seeing how strong Lena became in this book. She learns so much & becomes a whole new person.

Hana is a definite MUST READ for any Delirium fan. This short novella is a quick read. View the summer before the cure from Hana's point of view & get another HUGE surprising sucker-punch to the gut! Jealousy & betrayal will shock you more than anything else you've read before in the first 2 of the trilogy!
